Technology has come a long way over the years and that extends into the Partsgeek oxygen sensor. It used to be that an engine would simply use the amount of gas that it was designed to use without any additional input from the car. However, that is not the case anymore because of the engine control unit, commonly known as the ECU.
The ECU relies on the oxygen sensor to measure the oxygen, nitrogen and even fuel that leaves the engine cylinders. If there is too high of a fuel level, the ECU adjusts the amount of fuel going into the engine. If the sensor detects more air than necessary, then the ECU will ensure more fuel goes to the engine. This ensures that the engine is running in top performance mode all the time and will also help with fuel efficiency.
A Partsgeek oxygen sensor can be purchased to be put into place when the factory one breaks down. Since the sensor is constantly being exposed to hot fumes, it has a finite lifespan.
